Dairy & Egg Free Chocolate Custard

Dairy Free Chocolate CustardI battled to feed my daughter following a starch based diet. My son is good and he would eat most things, but they never like my cakes.

My daughter would eat my banana chocolate cake, only if I do it in a muffin form and if I add chocolate chips. My son would also eat my banana cakes but he does not like other cakes.

So I was glad when I found this chocolate custard recipe. I had planned doing this and put it in the fridge to eat after supper. But you know how it goes, your plan does not always work and it was evening and we had supper when I had not yet prepared this.

But I did not despair, I made the custard in the evening and my kids tried it hot. They liked it. I put it in the fridge and the next day it was delicious.

My children absolutely loved it. I also tried it and it had a rich chocolate flavour. It was also quite sweet. There was no complain from any of my family members.

I would personally not eat this every day, but for the kids it is a nice treat. The custard lasted for three days.

Though when I was preparing it I did a mistake .I used a measuring spoon that I normally do not use, and I did not realize that it was one and a half tablespoon instead of one table spoon.

I had already put six spoons of sugars (one and a half each). and I had already added the flour. also.

I ended up doing one and a half serving of this custard. It lasted for a couple of days and then I asked them to please finish it before it went bad.

It is not my recipe. I took it from here but mine came out with a richer and darker color. Thank you for it. It was delicious and my children enjoyed a good dessert.

So now I have two desserts that at least my son loves, chocolate custard and chocolate banana ice cream.

You can even try it with the fat free Wonderslim cocoa. Unfortunately it is not available in my area, so I used normal cocoa.

I am sorry for the bad picture. I need to improve on this.

Dairy and Egg Free Chocolate Custard

Below is the recipe

  • 4 level tablespoons cornflour
  • 6 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 cups Soy milk (mine was sweetened, so perhaps that is white it came very sweet, but everyone in my family has a sweet tooth.
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
