Four years ago I heard about the raw food diet, and I decided to give it a try. It was not the first time I heard about it, but it was the first time that I was willing to listen.

I gave it a try and I liked what I saw. But after a while I thought it was not sustainable. But all was not lost. The raw food diet took me to learn about a starch based diet, the McDougall diet.

A starch based diet is a diet based on starches, vegetables and fruits. Like the traditional Chinese diets, you eat lost of starches, lots of potatoes and grains, vegetables and fruits.

It is also known as a wholefood plant based diet because we eat unprocessed food. Oil is excluded form the diet, since oil is highly processed and does not have any nutrients. Yes coconut oil and olive oil are also highly processed and they are empty calories.

I really love this way of eating and I have been following for two years. It was not an easy change. and I do follow the progress and no perfection rule.

But I had some things on my side. I was not a big meat eater. My only problem was cheese and chocolate. Yes. I gave up cheese no problem, but chocolate was my weakness. And still is sometimes, I eat chocolate and I should not.

So what is different about this diet? Well this diet is the opposite of all the fad diets. Most people will tell you that you need to eat proteins and avoid carbohydrates at all cost. According to most people grains and starches are bad and they will make you fat.

 

Dr McDougall, Dr Campbell, Dr Bernard and Dr Esselstyn and some other doctors do not agree with this. Not only they do not agree, but they have done extensive research. Dr Campbell was one of the doctors behind the China Study, one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition.

Dr McDougall has been following this diet for over 40 years. He has treated successfully many patients with diet.

Dr Esselstyn has helped his patients reverse heart disease, and Dr Barnard has helped many people with Diabetes 2, to reverse diabetes.

Lots of people have improved their health, lower cholesterol and lost weight.

These doctors, have raised their own children following this diet, and the children themselves are healthy adults.
